Dry January was never on my radar, primarily because I was often nursing a hangover from New Year’s Eve festivities. The notion of abstaining from alcohol didn't seem necessary and certainly didn't make my list of top ten New Year's resolutions. Looking back, though, it would have been one of the more attainable goals.
This changed after I moved to New York and began dating my now-wife, who introduced me to what she playfully termed a "cleanse." It wasn't a well-known concept back then, which only added to its charm. Working closely in the alcohol business, it became important to prove to myself that I could take a break and give my body the rest it deserved.
